Nothing is work unless you'd rather be doing something else.

I think the person who takes a job in order to live - that is to say, for the money - has turned himself into a slave.

About

HOW MY RESUME DEVELOPED

I have developed a varied set of skills over the years. I worked as an administrative assistant (amongst other odd jobs such as waitress and barista...) in college in order to support myself as a student. Then after college I started freelancing for the Chicago Tribune Multimedia department. This is what started my interest in freelance graphic, web and multimedia design. During my years as a freelancer I again fell back on skills I already gained and usually worked a permanent part time job in order to supplement my freelance work. These jobs varied from administrative assistant, web content support, production associate or marketing assistant. Contractual work can be sporadic and unpredictable so having a stable income for support was very helpful. So that is how I came to have the combination of skills that you see on my resume.

WHY THIS WORKS FOR ME
Like everything in life, a lot depends on how you look at things. This eclectic set of skills could be considered a liability, possibly reflecting a person who can't hold down a steady long-term job, or has no career direction. Both points being far from the truth. In actuality my varied skills reflect a person who is adaptable, interested in learning new things, and learned to manage a freelance career in a way that created some stability.

I see my skill set as an asset, especially for the right company. There are many small companies and maybe not so small companies that need to manage their resources more effectively in today's economy. They are looking for people who can wear many hats and fulfill multiple tasks that require a more eclectic skill set in order to meet the demands of the company. Well I would fit right in. I actually like doing many different things and enjoy the variety and challenge of learning new skills. So its all how you look at it!

WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR NOW
I am moving away from my freelance career and I am looking for a fulltime position that will utilize all or some of my various skills. Some positions may be more administrative and some may have more design or production. All of it is fine with me. Currently I am working part time and their is no availability for full time, so I need to look elsewhere to find a fulltime position. My goal is to find a great company, with a great bunch of folks, who have great attitudes. Part of the enjoyment of work is not only the work you do but who you do it with. I hope to work for a company that supports its employees in their growth in order to meet today's challenges and where the goal is creating a great working environment.
